Academic Clubs are open to 4th-6th graders in the Solana Beach School District at Skyline, Solana Pacific, Solana Ranch, and Solana Santa Fe.
The Solana Beach School District Band is open to all fourth through sixth graders in the Solana Beach School District.
The Summer Academy is a program extended by invitation only to select Solana Beach School District students.
The Solana Beach School District Band is an after school program of the Solana Beach Child Development Center. It is open to all 4th - 6th graders in the Solana Beach School District. The band meets one day per week, after school at Solana Pacific. Band tuition is $795 for the year, which includes 28 classes, two concerts and a t-shirt. Advanced Band meets on Mondays between 3:30-5:30 p.m. Students must have participated in a year of Beginning Band or have at least a year of prior experience playing their band instrument before registering for Advanced Band.
INSTRUMENT CHOICES & RENTALS: Students need an instrument of their choice to participate in the band program. Students may pick from flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tube and percussion (i.e. drums). Families can choose to purchase an instrument or rent one.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: Frank Glasson, a native of Solana Beach, has performed in the trumpet sections of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Opera, Middel Deutsche Rundfunk Orchestra of Germany, Tokyo Opera Nomori of Japan, Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, Start Theater and National Chamber Orchestras of South Africa, and has appeared as a soloist with the latter two. Also an accomplished jazz performer, Frank received a Grammy nomination for "Best Jazz Instrumental Solo" for his improvised solos on the recording "Jazztet" in 2006. Frank is a Yamaha performing artist and can currently be seen performing with Pacific Symphony of Orange County. Frank is currently the band director for the Solana Beach School District and Director of Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra's Concert Band. For 8 years, Frank served as President of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 325. I am passionate about music and believe that my dynamic approach will inspire the band to new heights as the best learning comes when you enjoy what you are doing."
