Do you ever wish you could spend the entire morning drawing, painting, sculpting, making your own book, origami, or other creative projects? We will draw inspiration from our favorite authors, such as Mo Willems, Eric Carle, Shel Silverstein, and more! We will also learn about the authors and illustrators as we spend our summer learning how to make our crafts step-by-step. You will go home with your crafts to keep or give as gifts! Ready, Set, Go aims to familiarize incoming kindergarten students with classroom expectations and norms so that they feel confident to begin their academic journey. Students can meet their potential classmates and develop social skills before kindergarten. Students will also practice academic skills, including letter and sound, guided writing, counting and cardinality, number practice, and art. Leapfrogging Into 2nd offers reinforcement and extension of all the essential skills and many fun frog activities, including art, science, and thematic Math games. Be a researcher, an artist, a mathematician, a poet, a singer, an author, and a scientist. Join us as we explore the world of frogs and toads. Do you love geography? Are you interested in world travel? In this class, you will travel through the Americas and the continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe. Each week, we will focus on one continent. Students will create political and biome map puzzles to help familiarize themselves with the countries and play games. Students will explore the national parks of North America, learn about indigenous South American animals, see the world heritage sites and animal sanctuaries in Africa, explore amazing structures in Asia, and visit must-see places in Europe. Students will delve into ancient civilizations and cultures from the continents each week through research projects, reader’s theater, and art. Each week, students will create a geographically-inspired art project, such as a paper mache animal from South America, African-inspired wire art to create a baobab tree, origami, and ink and rice paper paintings from Asia, oil pastels to create pastoral scenes like Van Gogh, as well as cook some typical European foods. Our whirlwind tour will end with a geography bee styled after the National Geographic Geo Bee. So, if your student is interested in competing in next year’s Geo Bee, this is a great opportunity to start preparing!
